no, because if you use your cane on your injured side you have to lean on the cane which puts pressure on your injury. if you have the cane on the opposite side as your injury then you can put pressure on that side which will relax your injury
when your arms hang at your side at a comfortable stance, the cane should come up the crease in your wrist. Of course, you should ask your doctor before changing your cane, since your needs might be different, and the standard measurement practices aren't always perfect for everyone.
