Gideon is best known for being an average man chosen by God to do great things. As the story goes, he was working in a well when an angel of the Lord appeared to him. The angel told him that God had chosen him to fight a large army so that Israel may be saved. Gideon was hesitant and asked God to confirm this to him on two different occasions by giving him two clear signs. God gave him the signs and Gideon then obeyed God. God equipped him with an army of 300 men. This was a very small army, but since God was with them, they prevailed easily.
