What is the purpose of a diary?

Journals and diaries aren't exactly things you need to have a strong opinion on. Most people write in them to sort through emotions, remember things, and some other things. They help people understand their feelings better. I journal because I like to write. For other people, such as my Great-Grandma, journaling is a way to help their memory.

They want to keep track of what it was like, so the baby will have something to read when he or she gets older. Sometimes you might write in a diary to put together as a book of your life.

I have a diary, and I love it. I've had it since I was five, and it's a gigantic book.

the main purpose to note the daily activities for future use... or the important action that happened on the particular day on the year... but now a days diary writing becomes occasional and the notes are being taken in computer or mobile phone.....
