A New Year's Resolution is to help you. For instance if you smoke your new years resolution could be not to smoke. A new year resolution lasts all year. A new years resolution is something to HELP you and your body. Basicly it helps you break a habbit and if you achieve your resolution you should feel good about yourself. But personally I think that losing weight is not a good resolution if your not over weight but if u r over weight it would be a good resolution. THE PURPOSE OF A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION IS TO BREAK A HABBIT (A BAD HABBIT).

The tradition goes back 4,000 years and was held in the spring as the world became "new" with the spring growth from the dead of winter. The "new year" is a method to mark time and change.
