a steam powerd foctorie does not create any green house gases and there for is very economic. but there is a down side to run a steam powerd factorie you will need A LOT of steam.
A water-powered factory did not create pollution and could only operate near water, but a steam-powered factory did create pollution and could operate anywhere on land
Factories were powered by Steam and smoke which ruined the population from polution....then they were powered by Water which had no polution.

The steam engine was pivotal in the Industrial Revolution as it provided a reliable and efficient power source, revolutionizing transportation and manufacturing. By enabling factories to operate machinery without relying on water power or animal labor, it significantly increased production capacity and efficiency. Additionally, steam-powered locomotives and ships transformed trade and mobility, facilitating the movement of goods and people. This innovation laid the groundwork for industrialization, urbanization, and economic growth.
They had to be located along power sources and in this time it meant rivers or waterways. They needed the water for steam or water power. In England they built shallow canals so the mills had the water and ways to get the wool to market with shallow draft boats. It was this way until things could be powered by electricity.
