Actually there are many connections between reading and writing, they are both meaning-making activities. Even though the outcomes of the learning processes are different they are interrelated. Both reading and writing involve similar cognitive processes and they both begin to develop in a child's life at approximately the same time. They help to construct meaning in everyday life, they both consist of stages that one must pass through, and literacy development is not based solely on reading or writing it is an outcome of the two together. As writing is used everyday, reading will improve with it. An avid reader will be more bountiful in the area of vocabulary.
