Pressure and depth are related in that pressure is proportional to depth. The equation to find pressure at a certain depth is p=dgh, where p is the pressure, d is the density, g is the acceleration of gravity and h is the depth.

Pressure increases with depth.

The formula for pressure is

P=ρ*g*h+Pa

where

ρ (the Greek letter Rho) is the density of the fluid,

g is the acceleration of gravity,

h is the depth from the fluid surface and

Pa is the pressure at the surface of the fluid.


every foot a diver decends you get about 1/2 lb. of pressure. So at 100 foot divide the pressure by 2 and that's approximately the pressure. At sea level the pressure is 14.7 psi. Go down to 33 feet and you have another 14.7 psi. In fresh water it's 34 feet to get 1 atmosphere.

The greater the depth in a given body of water, the greater the pressure. Water pressure is measured in atmospheres for the purposes of depth. At sea level, water is at one ATM. At 33 feet, 2atm. At 66 feet, 3 ATM and so on every 33 feet accounting for 1 ATM.

As the name implies, an "atmosphere" is the amount of pressure exerted on the surface of an object by the natural atmosphere of the earth at sea level.
