The daffodil has two reproductive systems.

  1. The bulb performs asexual reproduction by growing offshoots or bulbets that are clones of the parent bulb. They will always breed "true" since they are clones.
  2. The flower is the sexual portion with an ovary, egg and sperm. Though it is not as efficient as the bulb for reproduction, it does guarentee genetic variablity and the ability to adapt to changing conditions over a long period of time.
