I have a 6 rib trans what starter goes to this The old starter to my 3 rib seems to be to short on its throw?

Hi. The 6 rib gearbox = 2L "091" 1976-80 ish, a 3 rib gearbox = Std 1600cc "002" '1967 - 6/73 ish (there are 2 types - The Early one that isn't supported over the bell housing and the later type that is ('72 on). A type 4 engine (17, 18, 2000) will go onto a 1600 box no probs. gearboxes for type 4 engines have a slightly longer input shaft so a 1600 won't fit onto that. There are people who'll say grind the shaft down, but i fell that's a bit of a waste and it's no big deal to remove bellhousing and change the shaft.. Shaft goes further into Type 4 lump - but bell housings (1600s as well!) were seemingly all a bit longer after 75............. with a different (longer throw) starter motor too - I guess that's where you're at with your 76-80 'box.
