Certain evolution-minded people think that it is the remnant of an organ that allowed our ancestors to digest cellulose, enabling them to eat greenery. However, there are several opposing schools of thought regarding this. Recent findings indicate that the appendix is not actually as useless as has been previously thought, and may play an important role in various physiological functions such as the human immune system.

Long ago when food was dirty, the appendix separated dirt from food. Kind of like a filter for the body. Now that our food is clean, it is no longer usable. Some times it may get infected. If that happens, (appendicitis) you must have surgery to get it out before it explodes.

Scientists today do not actually know what the actual function of the appendix even is - some say that it is a vestigial organ, others say that it is an important factor in the immune system, and others say that it can function as a storehouse for helpful bacteria during an illness which kills all the other intestinal bacteria. Because we do not know what the appendix's function really is, this question has no real answer.

the appendix has no use.

You don't need appendix. It is a vestigial structure that only might get in your way if it becomes inflamed.

However, recent research shows that it creates helpful bacteria.

The appendix has been shown in recent years to help produce certain enzymes which can ward off some disease.

Answer 2: Just because we don't know the reason for some feature in an organism does not mean that it doesn't have an important role to play. For example, so called vestigial organs were once thought to show that the human body and other organisms were poorly designed. The appendix and tonsils, for instance, were once thought to be vestigial organs and were removed. But then it was discovered that these organs play a role in the immune system, and they are no longer considered vestigial. What is the enzyme of the appendix?

What does a cows appendix do?

The appendix in cows is an organ that has no known function in their digestive system. It is believed to be a vestigial structure, similar to the appendix in humans, which may have had a role in digestion in ancestral species but is no longer necessary.

What organ has no known function?

The appendix is an organ that was previously thought to have no function, but recent research suggests it may play a role in immune function.

Do cats have appendixes?

No. The appendix is the vestigial (now mostly useless) caecum found in humans. Dogs do not have an 'appendix', but they do have a small caecum (a coiled organ), which does not have a very important role (unlike the caecum in herbivores).

What causes the appendix to burst and what are the associated risk factors?

Appendicitis is the main cause of the appendix bursting. This happens when the appendix becomes inflamed and infected. Risk factors include a blockage in the appendix, infections, and a family history of appendicitis. Other factors like age, gender, and diet may also play a role.

What is the vestigial organ in human aliemetary cannal?

The appendix is considered a vestigial organ in the human alimentary canal. It is a small pouch connected to the beginning of the large intestine and is believed to have had a role in digestion in our evolutionary ancestors, but now serves no clear function in humans.

What is the function of rats appendix?

The Appendix is a place an extra supply of them is stored. (Without an appendix, you would eventually get a new supply from other people you meet, but this probably took longer when there were fewer humans in the world.)

Is the appendix part of the endocrine system?

The role of the Appendix is still a mystery to science, but some recent research has led some scientists to believe it is part of the fetal endocrine system, helping to support the homeostasis of the fetus. This is not the case after birth, and the appendix starts to fill with lymphoid tissue. This has given scientists the idea that the Appendix is part of the Immune System.
