It was covered in marble, and had numerous statues. The arena had a canvas roof which sailors would pull across on wet days.
Unfortunately the marble was pillaged in the last hundred years or so by residents of Rome to beautify their own mansions.

∙ 13y agoThe Colosseum was/is made of a variety of materials. The most often used is concrete in different types. The outside was faced with travertine and the upper levels with brick-faced concrete. Limestone was used for the floors and marble for the seats. The floor of the arena itself was of wood.
