I imagine the question needs to be: where are you walking and why do you need to carry a knife.
I only need to carry a knife while walking in my kitchen or in my garden; in the kitchen the knife is always in my hand attending to onions and other such things.. In the garden it might be in my hand or on my belt. I don't expect to be running with it and if the occasion should arise where, say, a traffic accident or an injured animal was involved I'd shove it in my belt or throw it aside, since running with a knife in hand is never a good idea. If you imagine yourself stalking prey, or being stalked, walking along there with a knife your only weapon , I'd suggest you stay home and watch TV instead. I cannot imagine any occasion where any suburban would-be warrior might want to charge through the trees with a knife in their mouth, but hope they don't expect great use of their tongue anytime soon since they're likely to trip over their feet and cause themselves a bit of an injury. The same applies to the notion of carrying a knife between your legs while still managing to walk. Try it, mate. Doesn't work, trust me. Looks hilarious, though. You need to hold the knife in between your legs when running through the woods. OR, you could hold it in your mouth when walking. This allows for quick and easy use. It is also the safest form of knife carrying.
