Depends on the Diocese, but Episcopal priests tend to be fairly well-paid, compared to pastors from other denominations. Where I live, in New England, the compensation seems to start at around $45K, plus either a housing allowance or use of a church-owned rectory, for a full-time rector. After about 10 years of ministry, the pay winds up being about $60K. However, that is for full-time, and many smaller churches can only afford a part-time rector. Priests who want to work full-time may need to split their time between two parishes, teach theology somewhere, get a part-time chaplaincy post, or serve the diocese in some other capacity. Also, seminary is very expensive, so the cost of paying off student loans must be considered. If you're curious about the pay in a specific area, visit your diocesan Web site, and see if compensation guidelines are posted anywhere. Many sites do provide that information.

Salaries vary according to their rank. The Archbishop of Canterbury is on a salary of about £65,000. Other Bishops get between £27,000 and £54,000 per year. Arch Deacons get paid about £28,000 per year, Residentairy Canons £22,000 per year and Incumbents and clergy of similar status get about £20,000 per year.

Bishops do have a salary. It is not published.

They also have a stipend for retirement, health care, pension fund and a car and expenses covered in retirement. They are provided a private secretary, and fairly unlimited travel expenses to visit Rome, or to carry out what they think is their mission.

They are well compensated as single men without obligations, and enjoy a life of ease and luxury similar to the wealthy upper class of Americans.

If married can you be a priest?

In the Roman Catholic Church, it is required that a priest be celibate. This is to keep the priest from being distracted from doing God's will as a priest. However, if an Anglican or Orthodox priest who is married converts to Catholicism he is able to become a Catholic priest and keep his wife. In the Eastern Catholic Church though, the priests are allowed to marry though. Lutheran and Episcopalian Priests are allowed to marry as well.
