According to legend, a horrific short story called "Cow Head" was discovered in Japan in the 17th Century. The actual origin of the story is still shrouded in mystery.

Several written accounts from this era make reference to the awful story, but they only mention its title and describe it as a tale too terrible to tell.

Rumours state that upon hearing the dreadful tale, listeners were overcome with a terror so great that they trembled violently for days until they finally died from fright.

The Cow Head story was deemed too dangerous and most existing copies of it were burned years ago. The few copies that survived were cut into sections and distributed across the country. Today, it is believed that only fragments of the original story remain in existence.

Most of the actual details of the story remain unknown to this day. The unfortunate people who read the story never lived long enough to repeat it.

Well this isn't the SCARIEST story in the world but it is kinda creepy.

This one is called THE FACE.

There was a 16-year-old (let's call her Maisie) and a 9-year-old (let's call her Tamra). Tamra's mother wanted Maisie to babysit while she went out to buy groceries. Maisie said yes. So when Tamra's mother left, Maisie came over. She told Tamra to go up to her room and play with her dolls. So Tamra went up to her room to play with her dolls. Maisie took out a book (what book it was, it doesn't matter) and started to read. She read a chapter and looked up from her book. There was a very creepy face staring at her through the window beside her. Maisie felt a little uneasy, so she went upstairs to check on Tamra. She asked Tamra if she was OK and Tamra said yes, she was fine. So Maisie went back downstairs, picked up her book, and read two more chapters. She looked up from her book and saw that the scary face was still there. She was really getting nervous now. So she went upstairs to check on Tamra. She asked if Tamra was OK and Tamra said yes. So Maisie went back downstairs, picked up her book, and read three more chapters. She looked up from her book and saw that the scary face was gone. Maisie was terrified and she knew that something was wrong. So she ran upstairs to check on Tamra and when she opened the door, she saw that Tamra was dead; she had been strangled. So Maisie ran back downstairs and called the police. When the police arrived, she led them to where she had seen the face. The police then asked her if this was the window she had seen the face in. Maisie said yes. The police asked her if she was sure this was the window she had seen the face in. Maisie said yes. Then the police told her that the window was not actually a window, but a mirror. So the police leave. Maisie then knew that the face had been behind her the whole time. She looked in the mirror one last time and saw the face behind her. She turned around to see the face grinning maliciously at her. She screamed for the last time, though the scream fell on deaf ears. Tamra's mother came back the next day and saw that Maisie was dead; she had been strangled. Tamra's mother called the police... and it just keeps going.

for me it was one that one of my friends told me. her house is haunted and one night she was downstairs getting some milk at midnight and she heard a sqqueeking. she turned around and her pantry door was wide open. sne went to close it and a voice said "no". no one was there so she closed the door anyway. then she turned to leave and a black figure of a person was standing in the doorway and it had red spots all over it. then my friend relized it was blood and she turned to run but the figure was already behind her and grabed her leg and pulled her to the floor. when she turned back to face the... "it" it was gone but she heard a dog like panting coming from behind her. she started screaming and ran upstairs waking up her parents. they went downstairs and saw nor heard anything. the next night my friend was up till 11 pm and she went outside so her dog could go to the bathroom. she heard some scratching and looked up at her bedroom window. looking down at her was a black figure that had HUGE red eyes and it was staring RIGHT at her. her family moved after they saw it too. tell this story to your friends at night. i tried that at a sleepover and they all got SOOOOO freaked out! Omg i read the book haunted Canada and it was just like that she got murdered and lost a ring which was on a boat i think that's the ghost. I will tell you about the ghost i saw it was i was going to bed stayed up i was about to go to sleep but then i saw this lady black hair blood kinda like a pioneer it looked at me then went away the next night i looked into my bathroom saw myself in it wearing a helmet it stood their doing nothing and for some reason i couldn't talk but its freaky you know i went to sleep then next morning i could talk and told my parents
