What is the setting in thank you ma'am by Langston Hughes?
Langston Hughes' "Thank You, M'am" contains three main themes: love and trust, forgiveness, and dignity. After Roger tries to steal the purse of Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, the weight of the purse causes Roger to fall down. Jones kicks Roger, picks him up, and drags him to her home. After leaving him alone in her home, Roger decides not to take the money from Jones' purse (which has been left open and unattended). After eating dinner, Jones gives Roger ten dollars to buy the shoes he wanted (the shoes being the reason he tried to steal her purse). The themes, therefore, are illustrated through Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones' ability to both love and forgive Roger, her desire to treat him with dignity (after taking him to her house), and her desire to prove him trustworthy. Roger realizes, as he leaves Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones' home, that she has loved him, trusted him, forgiven him, and treated him with dignity.

The theme in thank you ma'am is kindness. Eventhough that boy tried to steel her purse she still cared enough for him to give him supper and the money he wanted for his shoes.
The them is still be kind to others even if they're not kind to you. Mrs. Jones is kind to Roger even though he is not kind to her.
She dies a very painful death. Roger started a gang and told them about this. They thought that he wanted her dead. They killed her as she entered her apartment. They shoved a stake knife in her throat and took her money. Once Roger found out about this he went crazy and killed his gang by trapping …them in a room with no escape and letting loose hungry rats. Then he killed everyone else he told about the story with Mrs Jones and hung himself right after drinking Clorine Bleach. ( Full Answer )

It is when Mrs. Jones takes care of Roger. She feeds him and lets him wash his face and gives him money.

It had a long strap, and she carried it slungacros…s her shoulder It was about eleven o'clock at night, and shewas walking alone, when a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatchher purse. his writings helped to push for equality between African Americansand whites during the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920's
The point of view is 3rd person limited. When reading the story you are not inside either of the character's heads.
Langston Hughes was good at writing and expressing himself while living in the times of the Great Depression and the Harlem Renaissance.
It was a woman named Alice walker who had inspired Langston Hughes to become a writer. Most people say it was his father or his family, but it was mostly Alice walker who had made him become a writer if this is wrong well my bad that the answer is wrong.:) :p

"Jazzonia" is set in a cabaret featuring jazz music, as jazz is one of the staples of the the Harlem Renaissance. Jazzonia is basically a country of jazz, denoting the importance of the art form to American culture. "Jazzonia," as a poem, is structured like a jazz song with variations upon a famil…iar theme (i.e., "oh silver tree," "oh singing tree," "oh shining tree"). There are sexual, drunken images of the jazz club that emphasize the fun, visceral atmosphere of the room. The idea is that jazz is earthy, humanly, and utterly fascinating to the culture. The sexual images reside in allusions to Eve and Cleopatra. Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_jazzonia_about#ixzz1wOqUUH2j ( Full Answer )
Don't ever give up on goals and dreams in your life. Keep it strong and it will help you, instead of suffer.
It's when roger tried to steal Mrs Jones's purse and she grabbed him by his shirtfront that's an internal conflict. :)
i think its when the lady takes him home and well umm... sorry i forgot
The short story , Thank you Ma'am, was written by author LangstonHughes. The lesson that is learned in the book is kindness.
If you take the story literally, the conflict is between the lady and the boy, as she does force him to come and eat dinner with her, etc., but I think that the real conflict is internally within the boy. He wants to be trusted but at the same time he's not sure what to think of this flustered woman… who has an unexpected interest with him. He's also dealing with a rough childhood, so he's suprised by the woman's kindness and doesn't really know how to react. (A great story, a great author!) ( Full Answer )
Actually, Langston Hughes was a poet and a person who writes short-stories. He was never an inventor.
Hughes never married, and never had children. Some scholars of his life and works say he was a well-closeted homosexual, others feel he was asexual and passive.
The poem could perhaps be understood like this: I would compare you to a starless night, but your eyes are too bright. I would compare you to a dreamless sleep, but your songs arouse me.
yes and no yes because since he grew up as a lonely child and since he never really had a father maybe he did take out his anger on his poems....... and no because Hughes was not known for taking out his stress on his poems because poems is what helped Hughes be himself
In the poem Dreams by Langston Hughes, the narrator is advising the reader to never stop dreaming and to never give up on a dream. The reason for this is because he/she feels that the world is a very depressing place, but dreams can make it wondrous and exciting ("Life is a broken-winged bird/ That …cannot fly"). ( Full Answer )
