In chapter 23 Jonas is still on his way "elsewhere". He is going up a mountain and then he is losing a lot of memories and cant keep Gabe and himself warm. Suddenly he feels numb and cant feel his legs and he keeps going though and at the top of the mountain he sees a sled ( like the one he received in his 1st memory from the giver). At the very end, he hears what is called music.

In Chapter 6 of "The Giver," Gabriel is identified as an infant who is struggling to sleep through the night and facing potential release from the community due to his lack of progress. Jonas, the main character, becomes attached to Gabriel and ultimately decides to take him with him when he leaves the community at the end of the book.
