well it all depends on what kind of butterfly it is. Like the Queen Alexandra's birdwing is the biggest butterfly in the world and is about a foot long, but other kinds of butterflies are tiny.

That depends on the species. Some species never get bigger than an inch, others are always bigger than 6 inches. In the U.S., most of the common species are 1-5 inches, with the swallowtails at the high end of that range and the blues, hairstreaks, and coppers as the low end.
