It commences at the upper part of the left ventricle, where it is about 3 cm. in diameter, and after ascending for a short distance, arches backward and to the left side, over the root of the left lung; it then descends within the thorax on the left side of the vertebral column, passes into the abdominal cavity through the aortic hiatus in the diaphragm, and ends, considerably diminished in size (about 1.75 cm. in diameter).

The Aorta begins at the exit of the heart at the aortic valve up through the aortic arch and down around the other side of the heart and continues down until it branches out to the lower organs kidneys etc... they vary person to person but I would expect 12-15 inches in length

What is coronary artery ectasia?

Coronary Artery Ecstasia is the abnormal dilation of arteries surrounding the heart. Instead of having narrowing arteries, the arteries are enlarged and then go back to normal size. The problem is the blood builds up in the dilated part of the artery and has to make its way down through the normal part of the artery This is a danger that can cause the blood to clot before it is able to move through the narrow part of the artery causing an aneurysm.
