The answer to this question used to be Pluto.
However, Pluto got re-classified as a dwarf planet a few years ago, and we've discovered a number of other dwarf planets, so the answer has changed. The smallest planet is now Mercury, which is the closest to the sun, and the farthest planet from the sun is now Neptune. If you include dwarf planets, then the farthest from the sun is Eris, but Eris is larger than Pluto.

∙ 15y agoThe smallest "official" planet is Mercury, which is the nearest to the Sun. The most distant planet is Neptune.
In 2006, the International Astronomical Union finally defined "planet" for the first time, resulting in the demotion of Pluto from "planet" to "dwarf planet". This was done because of the discovery of several new "planet-like" objects in the outer solar system.
