Well the whole plot is different and many of the questions the reader has are left unanswered. The biggest differences between the musical and the book are that

- Elphaba could have died there was no proof she lived.

- Galinda and Elphaba never make up, the last scene with them is just heart wrenching.

-Fiyero is not the scarecrow she just hopes he is.

-Elphaba has a son named Liir.

-The love triangle between Elphaba and Fiyero never really exists it is between Fiyero's wife and Elphaba ( Fiyero's wife and most of their children die except one )

There is a lot more but that is most of it. Sorry of you didn't want it compared to the musical. All in all Maguire has a much darker ending.

Where does the character Elpaba come from?

While there is no character named 'Elpaba', the character Elphaba Thropp is from the book "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire. The Broadway musical "Wicked" is based off this novel and also includes the character Elphaba Thropp.

What are the four books in the 'Wicked' series called?

If it's the literary series you're referring to (as one would assume based on the fact that it wouldn't make sense to refer to books pertaining to the musical as a series as the only contextual commonality would be the subject matter, whereas the literary series shares both subject matter and authorship) then there are three books in the series: WICKED, SON OF A WITCH and A LION AMONG MEN and the newest on OUT OF OZ all written by Gregory McGuire.

What book is the musical Wicked from?

The musical 'Wicked' is based on the novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954]. Many of its characters are drawn from the original 1900 book edition by Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 6, 1919], and the beloved 1939 film version, of 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Neither the book nor the movie give her any name other than "The Wicked Witch of the West." Gregory McGuire's book Wicked names her Elphaba. It comes from the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz's initials: L F B. If you sound it out, it sounds like Elphaba.

What is the name of the book with all the witches of Oz in it?

You're probably talking about the book Wicked by Gregory McGuire, which tells the story from the Wicked Witch of the West's point of view. If you mean the original Oz books by L Frank Baum, the four witches appear in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (counting the Wicked Witch of the East's feet, since that's the only way she ever appears).
