A check engine light could mean many things on a 1988 Nissan Sentra. The light could mean anything to a fuel cap not being tight enough to bad spark plugs.
none of the parts well interchange at all.. except for nuts and bolts.

Depends upon your type of spark plug. Check with your retailer (atuo parts store) and they with have specs for the appropriate gapping
spark plug setting should be .044
