Some consider the strongest animal the lion or the tiger based on the killing ability, but the Kodiak or Brown bear is far stronger.

Brown bears are known to flip over 400 pound rocks, looking for grub underneath, with a casual flip of one paw--as if it were no effort at all.

They tear doors off cars to get a single half finished bag of potato chips, and have opened coke machines with claws that leave four perfectly spaced claw marks, opening the front of the machine like an automatic can opener, leaving shredded steel behind. When that doesn't get it, they slip a paw under the machine and flip it over.

A year old cub can drag a kill or scavenged animal like a moose, caribou, or elk that outweighs it by twice, up a near vertical cliff for a half mile with apparent ease. Those who witnessed this claim the bear was still going but had disappeared behind a rock wall after about half an hour. It was seen again twenty minutes later feet from the top, still dragging the moose, and it had climbed nearly three quarters of a mile up a cliff the men could not manage. It would do everyone who reads this good to remember that, and never tempt a bear. You are nothing to them--even if you have a rifle you may not be able to stop a mother bear with cubs.

In Montana, the people say "Mother bear!" as an expression meaning something difficult, tough or impossible. "It's a mother bear of a climb up that mountain"

Now you know why bears are regarded with great respect by those who know them well. Only fools attempt to get close to bears.
