Because the speed of light is finite (around 186,000 miles per second) and the stars are so distant, it takes a long time for the light to reach the telescope from the stars - at least 4.2 years. Many objects are millions of light years distant, meaning that what we see in the sky is from the distant past.
Near object form bigger angle and distant objects form smaller angle. From this angle formed, you can judge the distance between near and distant objects. But their is limit to the smallest angle, you can perceive. That is why you can not note difference between the near and distant stars.

We judge distance using a number of different cues, a number of which indicate that the stars are far away.More distant objects will tend to appear smaller. The stars appear small.Any object that blocks a portion of the sky will block the stars from view, so we know the stars are more distant than those objects.When we move, objects we are looking at appear to change position relative to us. The farther away they are, the smaller the change. No matter how much we move there is no apparent change in the position of the stars, meaning they must be very far away.Indeed, the stars are much farther away than they appear to be as we are not able to perceive such distances directly.
The apparent redshift is caused by the Doppler Effect; the frequency of waves is increased by an approaching source and decreased by a leaving source. Since the fgrequencies we see from stars are slightly lower than they should be, we know that the stars and other objects are moving away. The Doppler Effect causes changes of light emanating from distant stars and galaxies.
