What is the temperature of the Atlantic ocean near New Jersey in July?
As of today, July 20, 2010 when this reply is being written, the current ocean water temps along the Jersey Shore are hovering around 80 degrees (F). It should be noted, that ocean water temps along the eastern seaboard, and along the gulf coast are the warmest on record, or close to it. What the normal temp is for July, I do not know. Lower than 80!
The Indian Ocean is warmer. The Atlantic Ocean is cooler. The Indian Ocean is on the Durban side. The Atlantic Ocean is on the Cape Town side. Average Water Temperature: Indian Ocean: Durban July (estimate) = 22 degrees celcius / 72 degrees fahrenheit Atlantic Ocean: Cape Town July (estimate) = 16 degrees celcius / 61 degrees fahrenheit
The canal that connects the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean is known as the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal connects New York City and the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The Canal started construction on July 4, 1817 and was officially opened on October 26, 1825 (even though it was first used on May 17, 1821).
As a veteran of one east to west crossing via the trade winds, the best west to east routes are to the north, US - Bermuda - Azores - Europe. You have the benefit of the westerly winds and the Atlantic high. July is late to leave for a west to east crossing, the risk of hurricanes is increasing.
