Artemis fowl and the lost colony is about what happens when the time tunnel that connects earth and hybress, the demon's island, starts unraveling The time spell was created when humans defeated fairies in the battle of taillite. Most magical creatures went underground, but the demons chose to have some demon warlocks lift their island out of time and into limbo. When the time spell starts unraveling demons start appearing in our world. Normally demons can keep themselves in their dimension with silver, but not always. Artemis does some calculations and works out when and where demons are going to appear. He goes to these places to try and find one. One of these places is a theater. When the is there he observes Minerva, a 12 year old French child genius, capture a demon called number one. He is not happy about this, and tries to get the demon back. Eventually he succeeds but then Minerva is kidnapped He offers to trade the demon for her, but trikes the kidnapper and ends up with both. Artemis realizes that he has seen the marking on number one's head on a poster advertising an art exhibition He, Holly, Butler Miniver and number one hurry to the exhibition They discover that the sculptures are demon warlocks trapped in stone, and only one of them is alive. Number one frees this demon and discovers that he is a warlock. Artemis, number one, Gwen and Holly end up in hybress well trying to make sure a bomb does no hurt anyone. When they are there they discover that the time tunnel had fused a warlock with the demon pride leader. They need five magic creatures to transport the island back to earth. This was going to be a problem, until Artemis steals some magic. The five of them transport the island back, but are two years in the future Artemis discovers that he has two twin brothers.

Artemis's father has been captured by the Russian Mafiya. They are holding him for ransom in the Arctic, so, with the help of Holly and Commander Root, they go into the Arctic to rescue his father. I won't tell you more . . . if you plan to read it, it will be a spoiler.

The theme in Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident is: "Not all bad people are heartless". Even though Artemis only used his wish to heal his mother to avoid being put into care, he could have avoided care in other ways as to confusing the securities, which he is explained to have the ability to do. Also, he has shown signs and thoughts of guilt to kidnapping Holly Short, and signs of affectionate friendship to Butler and his father. Other than that, he is shown to be either heartless or evil, but as of the examples above, it is proven not true.

The same goes for the Arctic Incident, but for different reasons.

Also another theme, "Any kind of person can change their ways." For that theme, Artemis starts slowly changing into a nice person, as to Briar Cudgeon changing from a likeable and honest role model (him being a high ranked officer) to a heartless evil conqueror. As for the first theme, Artemis shows care for his father once again, and agrees to help the fairies in eliminating Opal and clearing Foaly's name. Not only that, but attempting to save Holly instead of leaving her out of magic and no finger.

There are basically two main themes. The first is how they outwit Opal and Cudgeon. The second is how Artemis, Holly, and Butler save Artemis's father, Artemis Fowl II.
