I'm not sure its main theme, but I think it is about curiosity and magical world.1) Curiosity- the story starts when the king announces his curiosity about the princesses' activity in the middle of night that makes their shoes worn out. He decides to marry one of his daughters to any man who manages to find the secret.2) Magical world- This Twelve Dancing Princesses is about a 'story in story' because the princesses go into another world when it comes to the midnight. They enjoy their lives in that magical world with their men, rowing the little boats along the magical river and dancing untiringly until 3 o'clock in the morning. Everything in the magical world is totally wonderful and amazing because its all about fairy tale..Hopefully this answer is helpful.. :)Just share this with you guys since I have tutorials on this literary element..
