When America Online acquired Time Warner in 2000 to become AOL Time Warner they initially kept the AOL ticker symbol. As the America Online business began to deteriorate substantially the company changed their ticker symbol from AOL to TWX and the company name from "AOL Time Warner" to "Time Warner" on October 16, 2003.
