The timing depends on model and year. Try 8 degrees BTDC. It should run fine at that setting.

Generally 4 degrees before top dead center with the vacuum advance disconnected.If you have access to an advanced timing light then 35 degrees total is ideal. All manuals refer you to the sticker on the radiator cowl......There it states that the base timing is 6 DEGREES BEFORE TOP DEAD CENTER (DR).

The factory service manual specifies eight degrees before top dead center. With unleaded fuel though, you may have to play with it a couple degrees either way.

Chevy didn't produce the 350 until 1967. However, most 350's from that era had an initial ignition timing of either 4 degrees or 8 degrees BTDC. I usually run them at 8 degrees before top dead center myself.

5 degrees BTDC. remember to set the idle to 800rpm for automatic transmission and plug the vacuum advance ose before setting the timing.

TDC, top dead center is when the number 1 piston is at the top of the cylinder. 8 degrees before TDC is where you set the distributor so that is when the spark plug fires. You use a timing light to set the distributor. There is a timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and a series of marks on the timing chain cover that will show where 8 degrees before is at. The timing mark on the pulley is a small notch in the edge of the pulley closest to the timing cover.
