Answer You don't say what kind of car you are referring to, but I can tell you from personal experience that if for example you happen to be talking about a MGB I have your answer. MGB's have dual carbs. When for example you go up to 7000 feet, the carbs need to be adjusted because the air is thinner. When you come down the other side of the 7000 feet they need to be adjusted for normal air currents. It's a pain, but truly worth the effort as the car runs very smooth. If you don't have a MGB but have an American Car with a carb, that could be your problem.
