Again, this above answer describes fertilization, not implantation. Once the egg is fertilized by the sperm (also called fusion of the gametes), its cells begin to divide. It is now a zygote.

Only about 1/3 of zygotes survive the journey through the fallopian tube to implant in the uterine wall (about a 10 day process). If it does, it is now an embryo.
