As of 11/2009 Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values for circulated 1924 $20 gold pieces:

With no mint mark (Philadelphia) - $1300 to $1600
"D" mint mark (Denver) - $1500 to $2970
"S" mint mark (San Francisco) - $1500 to $3200

Uncirculated ones can be worth considerably more and should be professionally graded.

For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. The 1900 Liberty Head Double Eagle is one of the most common of the type. Assuming the coin is a circulated example, current retail values are $1,450.00 to $1,550.00 depending on the actual grade of the coin. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelry or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer

About 200-350 depending on the condition. I was surprised when my grandfather gave me one and I went to a coin dealer and he told me mine which is mint 65 that it was worth 300
