Best Answer

There were two different designs and each has a possibility of one of 4 mintmark letters. In general, a couple of dollars or less depending on amount of wear and collector demand. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.

It depends on its minting date. Coins dated from 1969 through 1982 are only collectible in uncirculated condition. As of 08/2012 they retail for about US$5.00. Some higher-grade circulated pieces from 1983 to 1987 can be worth $4.00 or so.

The front shows the late Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. It was a standard circulation coin first issued in 1969 to honor the 20th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland). The same design continued until 1987.

It's a coin that was in regular circulation up until the euro was introduced in 2002. The 2 DM coin had regular design changes to honor famous German authors, scientists, and politicians - the 1962 piece features a portrait of physicist Max Planck., a major German collectibles site, lists the following approximate retail values as of 10/2010:

"D" mint mark (München [Munich]):

Slightly worn - US$7.00

Almost no wear - US$10.50

Uncirculated - US$28.00

"F" (Stuttgart):

Slightly worn - $7.00

Almost no wear - $10.50

Uncirculated - $35.00

"G" (Karlsruhe):

Slightly worn - $14.00

Almost no wear - $31.50

Uncirculated - $70.00

"J" (Hamburg):

Slightly worn - $10.50

Almost no wear - $14.00

Uncirculated - $35.00

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are the best available, but may be significantly lower due to varying demand for the coin and the prevailing economic climate. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

More:The $1.43 amount represents the coin's approximate exchange value today IF it were possible to exchange it for euros or dollars. At the time Germany adopted the euro (2002) the exchange rate was roughly 2 DM = €1. However the coin is no longer in circulation and can only be redeemed at a few special banks.

A nice uncirculated specimen would be worth more to a collector, around €3 (US$4) as of 11/2011.

It has 62.5% silver in so at least the melt value

which on 12/August/2017 for example is

Bullion value: 2.95 GBP

with the coin weight being 11.2 g

Saying that, a collector would pay more than that usually.
