The U.S. half dollar has never been made of gold. What you probably have is a gold-plated 1979 half-dollar. It's not really worth much above face value.

A US half dollar with a date of 1979 is a Kennedy half dollar not a liberty half dollar. The coin has no silver and is only face value.

The gold plating adds nothing to the value, it's just a half dollar.

With the date of 1979 the coin is a Kennedy half dollar, it's worth 50 cents.

The U.S. Mint did not produce gold half dollars. Yours is probably gold plated and actually has little numismatic value although some people do collect them. Their value is mostly whatever you are willing to pay for them but remember they are just a half dollar with a little gold plated on them.

Exactly 50 cents. Gold plating adds no value.

It's plated, not pure gold. A collector will consider these as damaged coins. Perhaps a jeweler would be interested in mounting them in bolos or pendants.

In 1943 half dollars were made of silver not gold. Yours is only gold plated. The value is still about $9 for the silver it contains. The gold plating does not add any value and in some cases can destroy any value you have.

It's just a common date half dollar that's still found on circulation, spend it.

Unfortunately the added gold does not increase the value, but it's still worth about $10.00 for the silver.

It is only gold plated which adds no extra value. Since it is a gold plated coin it is considered altered and is worth face value.

About $4.50 for the silver. The gold plating adds no value and collectors will view it as damaged. However, a 1967 half dollar is 40% silver and is a common date only worth silver scrap.

July 3, 2009 The 1977 Kennedy Half Dollar in uncirculated condition is worth about $3. There may be a few cents additional value for the gold plated on it depending on the purity and thickness of the plating. As far as a collectable value, there is some interest in collecting gold plated coins but from a numismatic view the half dollar is not as issued by the mint and by plating it, even with gold, the coin is actually altered.

The US has never made a gold half dollar of any date, it's likely been gold plated take it to a coin dealer for an idea of value.

50 cents, it's very common has no silver and is still in circulation.
