The face value of a Sovereign is One Pound (GBP). Since all British Sovereign coinage is made from 22 carat gold, the actual value is very much higher. Athe very least, they are worth the bullion value of gold.

The face value of a Sovereign is One Pound.

Since they are made from 7.322381 grams of 22 carat gold, they are actually worth very substantially more than One Pound and at the very least, are worth whatever the current bullion value of gold might be at any given time.
