Gibson's have serial numbers and there is a site called Kelly blue book. There are other though. Careful with Gibson's, they change the format of their serial number every few years. You will need this number for any accurate appraisal. Another way is to go to a well established shop and ask them.

The value of a Gibson Les Paul made in 1971, can be worth anywhere from $1,200, to over $5,000. This depends on the condition, color, and overall desire.
The condition of a particular piece greatly affects the value of a collectible. A 1952 Gibson Les Paul guitar can be worth between 15,000 and 20,000 dollars.
I would take a Gibson 'Les Paul' for performance. Before that a telecaster with a 'Strat' Neck and an extra humbucket. For acoustic I would take a model one Ovation 'Super Baladeer' or a Martin. A Gibson 325 with or without a trapeze is just fine. I have owned five different tellies. I has a variety 1 les paul Gibson with one humbucket and the ser.#7. I bought it for 70 bucks. I sold it for 300. I wish I still had it. Now I have a Heritage 535ES. Plays like the Gibson it is. The owners of Heritage all worked for Gibson. It is a fine guitar. I would trade it for a les paul. Maybe.
