The 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at 3 locations: Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco. There was also a rare doubled die variety coin from New Orleans as well. These are the prices according to USA Coin Book as of 10/2010:

Philadelphia (no mint mark): In good condition, this coin is worth about $20 up to $40 in MS60 mint condition. In MS65 brilliant uncirculated condition, it's worth about $190. Proof coins were also made here and are worth about $2,600 in PR63 grade.

New Orleans (small "O" mint mark): In good condition, this coin is worth about $20 up to $40 in MS60 mint condition. In MS65 brilliant uncirculated condition, it's worth about $430.

Doubled Die Obverse Variety: There was a doubled die obverse variety that came out or New Orleans where the front "heads" side of the coin was struck twice. In good condition, this is worth about $30 up to about $385 in MS60 mint condition.

San Francisco (small "S" mint mark): In good condition, this coin is worth about $150 up to $310 in MS60 mint condition. In MS65 brilliant uncirculated condition, it's worth about $3,050.

Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mintmark, the 1878 Morgan is a common coin, but this is the first year of issue and 4 varieties exist. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. Most coins show a lot of wear. In general retail values for low grade coins for the most common type are $17.00-$19.00, better grade are $21.00-$23.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $31.00-$39.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer

In general $25.00-$35.00, but it also depends on the condition of the coin and if it has any mintmarks. Look at it again and post new question with more info.

Mintmarks are on the reverse above the letters DO in dollar.

one dollar

The value of a 1881 coin depends on where it was minted and also the condition. There was only 770 (approx) made, well circulated can fetch as high as 50 while uncirculated (good condition) can be worth more...again this all depends on the mint and condition, and of course finding the right person to buy it!
