The current Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms and Their Values shows $850 good-$2500 excellent; but the values can reach many times over and above this range. There are many variables to determine value. Amount of original finish is a starting place. The Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P Fjestadat has values form 10%-90% $1500 is the 10% starting point. This is a more replacement value or the highest value for an ALL ORIGINAL gun with original finish with all original parts. A gun that is refinished is valued at the bottom and up from there depending on whether the die roll stamps are clear and sharp and there is no damage or major wear and the refinishing looks acceptable and somewhat original. The Colt SAA has become more rare in any condition and the old idea that a refinished gun has little value is a complete distortion of the reality of the market place. Every honest Colt SAA Gun (original parts and not doctored up) has a market and will sell at $1,000-$2000 in todays market regardless of reblueing or refinishing. Though a refinished Colt SAA does not bring the higher values or interest an experienced collector. Browsing Gunbroker and Gunsamerica or Gun Runner Auctions can give some comparisons of similar guns and values. But it is important to really compare like for like. Learning just what you have is the hardest part and then making a valid comparison takes experience and research. Good luck.
