The independant would be the steroids because you are changing the amount. The dependant is the body weight because those are the results you are getting back.

Your variable in the 'How Much Water is in an Orange' experiment will be- Independent variable: The amount of water in the orange. Why? Because this is what you physically changed. Dependent variable: The weight of the dried orange. Why? Because this is what happened after you removed the water.
The weight is dependent on the mass. Mass is the same everywhere but since weight is mass * acceleration due to gravity, weight is the dependent variable.
