The fastest wind recorded in a tornado was 302 mph in the Moore, Oklahoma tornado of May 3, 1999. Other tornadoes in history may have had faster winds, but actualy wind measurements from tornadoes are rare.
On May 3, 1999, a strong F-5 tornado hit the Bridge Creek area SW of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Doppler radar wind speeds of 302 mph (486 kph) at a point about 100 feet of the ground. This was revised down from an earlier estimated of 318 mph (512 kph).
The highest wind speed ever recorded in a tornado was 302 mph +/- 20. This was in the F5 tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma on May 3, 1999.

However, it is relatively rare for winds in a tornado to be measured directly so other tornadoes which did not have their winds measured may have had faster winds.

The hiehgest wind speed ever measured in a tornado was a gust to 302 mph in the F5 tornado that struck the Oklahoma City area on May 3, 1999. However, few tornadoes actually have their winds measured. Given that other tornadoes have porduced more extreme damage, others have probably produced gaster winds.

Note that the size of a tornado does not necessarily correspond to its wind speed. The largest tornado on record, which struck near El Reno, Oklahoma on May 31, 2013 was 2.6 miles wide at its widest point. It holds the record for the second fastest wind speed recorded in a tornado at 296 miles per hour. The fastest wind speed recorded was in the tornado that struck the suburbs of Oklahoma City on May 3, 1999 at 302 miles per hour. This tornado was a mile wide at one point, but was less than half a mile wide when the peak wind speed was measured. Other tornadoes may have had faster winds, but never had them measured.
