A Pine tree or the mature sporophyte produce male and female cones. The male cones produce pollen and the female cones produce ovules located on the cone scale. if the egg is fertilized it becomes a zygote that is nourished by the female cone.

So whats true is that when the pollen grain reaches the ovule it begins to grow a structure called pollen tube which contains 2 haploid sperm nuclei. once the pollen tube reaches the female gametophytes one sperm nucleus disintegrates and the other fertilizes the egg.

one sperm fertilizes the egg

one sperm disintegrates

the zygote grows into embryo
