Large undersea earthquakes occasionally set in motion massive waves of water called seismic sea waves or (tsunami). They result from vertical displacement along a fault located on the ocean floor or from a landslide triggered by an earthquake.
The Thailand tsunami was generated by a major earthquake in the sea.

Tsunami
Any coastal port/ city (as well as some inland ones), are always vulnerable to a tsunami. While tsunamis which are generated by earthquakes are the most common (and these are in now well defined zones), not all tsunamis are generated by them. Tsunami can also be generated by under sea landslides or meteorite impacts.

Probably "tsunami" misspelled. A tsunami is an ocean wave generated by a submarine earthquake, volcano or landslide.

Ocean Village is about 500 miles from a subduction zone which has the potential of producing a tsunami generating earthquake. What is the maximum amount of warning time the village can expect if a tsunami is generated at that subduction zone?
Most tsunamis are generated from earthquakes at subduction zones, where one tectonic plate slide under another. During an earthquake at such a location, the subducting plate slips forward and part of it is thrust upwards, displacing the column of water above it. This displacement of water is what becomes the tsunami.
