there isn't any resistance in space so if something is moving in space, it won't stop until some kind of resistance occurs. the gravitational force and the associated attraction keeps the asteroids moving in space.

Gravity. That's what keeps them in orbit. Basically objects with mass pull other smaller objects towards them.

If the objects approached the object that is pulling them in in the correct way from the correct angle they become caught in orbit around that larger object (In this case the Sun is the larger and the planets the smaller) That covers the why.

As to why gravity exists there are a number of theories and as they do not really pertain to this question you will have to ask again or look them up.

It is really not that simple of a question.

Inertia. In outer space, there is hardly anything to slow a moving body down, in the sense of friction, so a moving body keeps moving.
