Why exactly do you want to know? If you are just learning how to play the Flute, then the keys are where you put your fingers. Each note you play has a different combination of keys you press down and keys you leave up.
Most Flutes (including piccolo, Concert flute, bass, and contra-bass flute) are C instruments. Other flute types and their pitches are: Treble, Alto, and Contra-Alto flutes:G, and Soprano flute(rare): E-flat. Most flutes besides Concert flute, and Piccolo are only used in flute choirs.
You can press a lot of keys, there are certain ones to make a note. Some keys you won't be able to press down because the will be down already, in this case you have to press a different combination of keys to open that certain one.
Playing the flute myself there are only ever 9 keys you can press at any one time. overall there are 18 keys which can be pressed.
An Indian Flute called Bansuri has 6 holes
Concert Flutes are in concert pitch, i.e the key of C. Others vary but this is the most common type of flute.
The standard flute is in the key of C Major. Even flutes with a B foot are still pitched in C major
The keys change the notes.
The Keys
Flute is worse. Saxophone is easier and more fun to play then flute.
There are 16 keys that you can actually press including various trill keys and the keys associated with low b. (I worded it that way because there are more key mechanisms on the instrument but you never have to actually touch those they automatically get depressed when u push down their corresponding key)
a regular flute has covered metal keys, and some have metal keys with holes in them. indian flutes are made of bamboo and have no keys, only holes
A saxophone does not have valves but it instead has keys. There are about 23 keys on a saxophone including a special F# key. Most of the side keys are used for playing high above the staff notes as well as low notes.
The Keys
I believe the pearl flute is a good flute for beginners as the keys you are not ment to press have the join on the top, so it discourages from pressing the wrong keys, and gets you used too pressing the home keys.

To play a flute, you hold it up to your mouth, but don't cover the mouthpiece with your mouth. Blow air across the mouthpiece, and press down keys in different combinations to get out different notes. (See a flute fingering chart.)
