A descriptive paragraph should paint a picture in the reader's mind.

An effective description should employ these rhetorical strategies:

Imagery - Illustrate my mind. What are the: Looks? Feelings? Sounds? Tastes?

Use adjectives to describe them. Be specific. Was the sky pretty or was it a brilliant pale blue? Give me the details.

Similes/Metaphors - Give me a connection. Simile: Comparisons using "like" or "as." She was like a queen. Metaphor: Comparisons not using "like" or "as." She was a queen.

Be even more specific and creative. Stand out with your comparisons. Make your comparisons different. Was the sky like the ocean, or was it like a giant blue panda bear?

Personification - Give the details a personality. Personification is giving non living things human like characteristics. Was the sky just there, or was it playing with the clouds?
