### How does the slope affect the steepness of a line?

The larger the absolute value of the slope if, the more
vertical, or steeper, the line is. A horizontal line has slope 0, a
line that is just a very little bit steep, might have slope, 1/10,
a line that is very steep might have slope 10/1 or 10, or even
1000000 and as that number gets bigger and bigger, the line becomes
almost vertical. For practical purposes, the slope, or steepness,
of the line can be determined by rise over run, or, with a 0/0
intercept, then y over x, or, y1-y2 over x1-x2.

### What is slope over distortion?

i believe you mean that the question is to do with the gradient
of a line
the gradient of a line is the change in height divided by the
change in distance
which is the same as slope divided by distortion
if a man goes up a hill and his height cahnges by 1 metres
vertically and he walks horizontally 10 metres then the slope is 1
metre and the distortion is 10 metres.
Gradiend is 1 -10th or 10%.....

### How is slope used in carpentry?

My roofer asked me what the slope of the roof was. It was an
8,12. That meant that the rise was 8 inches for 12 inches of run. A
steeper roof would have more area and a flat roof would have
less.
At the corner I have to cut a 45 degree angle to make it match.
That is a slope when turned flat of 1 over 1.
The ramps in the USA have to be flatter than a slope of 1 over 10
and recommended to 1 over 12.
