The few times these chains of ruler ship were broken had to do events such as civil wars or the failure of a Pharaoh to carry on traditional Egyptian values.

If you mean why can't just anyone become pharaoh, it's because you have to be the oldest surviving son of the old pharaoh to become pharaoh, or I think if the son(s) perished, then the husband of the daughter of the old pharaoh. And, anyway, Egypt moved out of that system of government AGES ago, just to let you know.
The pharaoh system of ancient Egypt was similar to the emperor system of ancient china. It's a family dynasty. Once the ruler dies, the prince must take over as king/pharaoh/emperor. It doesn't matter what age. It's been recorded that when a ruler is too young, he can still be ruler, but is assigned councilmen for wise guidance.
