Most monastic works were Bibles, or works that were theological, historical, medical, or legal, and these were in Latin. Monks also copied secular works, such as poetry, and these were nearly always in some vernacular language, such as Old English, Old French, or Old High German. Other vernacular works of the Middle Ages included translations of The Bible.
