The Titanic was called 'The ship of dreams' and 'Unsinkable' (after the disaster), along with being the biggest, most luxurious liner of its time and still holding record for the most luxurious ship though at the bottom of the Atlantic.
the Titanic disaster made lots of liner companies including White Star line (owners of Titanic) and Cunard (biggest rival company) to cancel some voyages and fit all ships with double hulls and keels.
The Titanic is famous because it was said to be the largest man-made ship in the world, also they claimed it to be unsinkable, so when it collided with an iceberg, and consequently sank killing 1,517 people, surprised the worl to say the least.
It is today seen as one of the major tragedies that have shook the world.
THIS IS WHY THE TITANIC IS FAMOUS!

Though that answer is generally and tragically correct it's worth examining that "unsinkable" claim. Who are "they" who considered her so? Certainly no-one in marine engineering! The myth is not the supposed attribute but the claim itself, created by an over-enthusiastic newspaper journalist mis-reading and mis-quoting a far more cautious and realistic assessment in a contemporary trade magazine.
"They" who actually knew anything about ships, never claimed the Titanic would be unsinkable! One of her two sister ships was sunk by enemy action in WW1. The other, the "Olympic", enjoyed a full, uneventful and successful life of 30 years or so, ended only by being sold for scrap.
For several reasons:
1) Though the White Star Line never said so, it was claimed by many to be unsinkable.
2) At the time, celebrity meant wealth, and there were plenty of Edwardian celebrities on board, many of whom died, such as John Jacob Astor IV, Benjamin Guggenheim and Ida and Isidor Strauss
3) It could have been avoided. If the Titanic had had enough lifeboats, wirelesses in ships been manned 24/7 or a governing body managing icebergs in the treacherous North Atlantic been about, there would have been no such disaster.
4) It is one of the deadlist peacetime maritime disasters ever.
5) It took 73 years to find the wreck, plenty of time for conspiracy theory and speculation to abound.
it was because white star line decided to build 3 huge ships to compete with cunard liners which were to be the rms olympic then the titanic then brittanic which was gonna be called gigantic.but titanic was to be the biggest and most luxurious ship out of the 3 liners ever built which made it so popular.also on its maiden voyage struck an ice berg with 2200 people on board with only 16 life boats only enough for half the passengers on board.at the time of the disaster ships were aloud the amount of life boats according to there tonnage but after the disaster ships had to have enough life boats for everyone aboard.so titanic made history for several reason being the biggest and in my opinion the most beautiful ship even to this day because of the disaster where over 1500 people died and because it set a whole new set of rules and regulations for ships and liners to even this day.
