The magical powers that a fairy possesses is dependent upon what type of fairy one is referring to. One of their main abilities is the ability to fly. A fairy Godmother for example, can transform things with a simple flick of a magic wand.

There is no such thing as a dark fairy. Things of fantasies and Disney pictures have no resemblance to real life. Perhaps you were talking of a fallen fairy, or a dark elf...?

Fallen fairies have all the powers that high-and-mighty fairies do, however, their magic emanates darkness and proves evil, if anyone comes in contact with it, whereas h-&-m fairies' magic emanates light.

Dark elves are similar to fallen fairies, but dark elves cannot fly (excepting the legendary kakó máv̱ro, the only ''dark fairy'' that might have lived. He was, in fact, a dark elf with magic so heightened that he could levitate and actually 'fly', leaving a stream of death in his wake. Some argue that he ever existed.)
