What of the following elements would have properties most similar to cesium Cs?

To find elements that are chemically similar, you don't need to look further than the related elements in the same family (columns). The periodic table is formed so elements in the rows have similar chemical properties. Cesium is in the first family, the alkali metals. All metals in this family are similar and will react explosively with water. The reactivity increases as you go down the column, with francium being the most reactive. But since francium is radioactive, I would say rubidium is most similar to cesium.

What makes an acid a strong acid?

Metals are needed to make bases, and strong metals - by which I do not mean physically strong, but rather chemically strong, in that they have a particularly weak grip on their valence electrons - make strong bases. And non-metals are needed to make acids, and strong non-metals, meaning those which have a particularly strong attraction to the electrons of other elements - make strong acids. That is why fluorine, the strongest non-metal - in more technical terms, the element with the highest electronegativity - makes the strongest acid, hydrofluoric acid. And the elements with the lowest electronegativity make the strongest bases. You may wonder how this works. An acid, dissolved in water, releases hydrogen ions, and a base releases hydroxide ions. Hydrogen will ionize most completely when its electron has been taken away by the element with the strongest attraction to electrons. And hydroxide radicals will also ionize most completely when they have taken away electrons from the elements that hold on to their electrons the most weakly. It's all about the hydrogen and the hydroxide. That's what makes things acidic or basic.

What makes elements similar?

By elements being similar, I assume you mean elements of the same group being similar rather than all elements in general. Elements of the same group are similar in terms of chemical properties because they share a similar electron configuration. For instance group one of the periodic table, the alkali metals, has only one electron in its outermost unfilled orbital. Because chemical reactions are dependent on the exchange and sharing of electrons, the similarity of electron configuration in elements of a group results in them having similar properties. For instance, the alkali metals are all soft and extremely reactive.

What makes silicon special?

it is one of the most widely used elements, used in things like glass, selants, and adhessives. Silicon is in all plant and animal life

What are the properties of a metalloid?

Metalloids share characteristics of both metals and non-metals and are also called semimetals. Metalloids are typically semi-conductors, which means that they both insulate and conduct electricity. This semi-conducting property makes Metalloids very useful as a computer chip material. Examples of metalloid elements are Silicon and Boron.Metals are generally shiny, malleable, and hard. Metals are also good conductors of electricity. Examples of metals are Gold, Silver, Iron, Uranium, and Zinc. Non-metals do not conduct heat or electricity very well. Non-metals are typically brittle and are not easily molded into shapes. Example non-metal elements are Hydrogen and Carbon

What element has water in it?

Water is a coumpound made up of two elements, hydrogen and oxygen, which makes the most basic unit of water a molecule, not an atom, which is the most basic form of an elements, so no elements contain water.

Well some are metals and non-metals ( Which you should know dat ) and each has a different meaning.. To us. GabrielAk-47boy

How are atoms and elements different?

atom and elements are different because one atom makes an element and a element is a pure substance and a atom is a basic particle

What is the most reactive group of elements?

It is in Group 17 that you will find the most reactive elements. These elements all lack only one electron from having that "magic" electron configuration of the inert gases. That makes these elements very "hungry" to get that "last electron" so their electron structures become more stable.

What makes up alkali metals special?

Alkali metals are very reactive, not dense or hard metals, monovalent, with low electronegativities, with low melting and boiling points, react violently with water, form strong bases, etc.
